The ESL program at Glenn College is comprised of a set of courses that help beginner, intermediate, and advanced ESL students gain confidence and proficiency in the English language. Students will focus on improving their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while also being introduced to a variety of new vocabulary, expressions, idioms and grammar points each week. Morning classes follow a structured schedule that focuses on grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening practice activities. Afternoon classes consist of electives that cover a variety of activities including pronunciation, discussion, survival English, and music, among other topics.
In-person ESL classes are divided into 8 levels and the daily schedule for each course is comprised of three 1.5 hour sessions. The first two sessions are split between grammar and a specific skill (reading, writing, listening or speaking), and the third session is for elective classes. Online ESL classes are divided into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, and are comprised of three 1-hour sessions. Like the in-class ESL courses, the first two sessions are split between grammar, reading, writing, listening & speaking while the third session is for elective classes.
