Ho Chi Minh City University of Law Partners with Glenn College to Develop Legal English Program

On the morning of October 3, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (ULHCMC) hosted a working session with Glenn College, Canada, to discuss a collaborative initiative focused on developing a Legal English training program. The meeting took place at Room A.905, Nguyễn Tất Thành campus.

Representing ULHCMC were Dr. Lê Trường Sơn, President of the university; Dr. Lê Thị Thuý Hương, Head of the Department of Scientific Research Management and International Cooperation; Mr. Lê Văn Hiển, Deputy Head of the Academic Affairs Office; Assoc. Prof. Trịnh Anh Nguyên, Director of the Center for Short-term Training; Assoc. Prof. Huỳnh Thị Thu Trang, Director of the Center for High-Quality and International Training; and Ms. Nguyễn Thu An, specialist from the International Cooperation Office. Representing Glenn College were Mr. Lee Sungkoo, President of Glenn College, and Mr. Joseph Nguyen, the college’s representative in Vietnam.

The session began with Dr. Lê Trường Sơn presenting an overview of the university’s history and its evolution into a leading institution in legal education. He also highlighted the university’s multi-disciplinary programs and levels of training, as well as its ongoing efforts to expand international cooperation through partnerships with educational institutions in countries such as France and the United States.

Following this, Mr. Lee Sungkoo expressed Glenn College’s keen interest in collaborating with ULHCMC to explore potential areas of cooperation. Mr. Joseph Nguyen introduced Glenn College as a Canadian-based vocational institution delivering globally recognized training programs such as TESOL and ESL. With accreditation from Canadian education authorities and industry associations, Glenn College maintains international standards in education and professional development.

During the meeting, both institutions discussed various aspects of the proposed Legal English program, including registration procedures, curriculum development and revision, course duration, target learners, and the integration of Glenn College’s learning management platform. Glenn College expressed its willingness to adapt its existing software and course content to meet the specific needs of ULHCMC.

As a result of the discussions, both parties agreed to initially implement the Legal English program through short-term courses under the management of ULHCMC’s Center for Short-term Training. The program aims to equip learners with essential legal English skills to enhance their professional capacity in the global legal environment.

The session concluded with both sides agreeing to move forward with the collaboration and coordinate with other departments to finalize and launch the program effectively. This meeting marks a significant step toward fostering international partnerships and expanding the university’s global academic footprint.
