Overview

This program provides foundational training in translation and interpretation between English and Korean in a business or workplace context. It focuses on developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills necessary for successful translation and interpretation. Students will engage in sentence-level translation, article comprehension, and pronunciation exercises. The program also introduces business terminology and appropriate use of formal and informal English.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Translate simple and moderately complex business content between English and Korean with accuracy and fluency.
  • Interpret short spoken exchanges and deliver equivalent speech in the target language using appropriate pronunciation and vocabulary.
  • Distinguish formal/informal and business-appropriate expressions in both English and Korean.
  • Qualify for ITT Level 3 (Intermediate) certification and prepare for advancement to Levels 1 or 2.

Admissions Requirements

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Native Enlgish or Korean speakers: Completion of high school in English or Korean.
  • International students:
    • IELTS 4.0 or higher
    • TOEFL iBT 40 or higher
    • TOEIC 450 or higher
    • Glenn College English Proficiency Test with an 70% minimum

Methods of Evaluation

  1. Individual translation and interpretation assignments (weekly)
  2. Participation in live interpretation activities
  3. Final cumulative translation test administered by the official ITT certification body
  4.  

Completion Requirements

  • 70% minimum attendance
  • Completion of all translation assignments and tests
  • Minimum cumulative grade of 70%

Program Duration

  • 120 instructional hours over 6 weeks

Homework Hours

  • 6 to 10 hours per week (not included in program duration)
