Overview

This program is meant to provide students with the necessary skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for interpretation and translation ability in a business or workplace setting. A broad range of sentence types will give opportunity to learn business context vocabulary, phrases, and writing styles. Students will learn to recognize appropriate vocabulary and distinguish formal and informal English.

The sentence translation exercises will advance grammar knowledge and use, along with opportunity to apply new vocabulary. The video lectures will explain proper and improper use of vocabulary and grammar, show alternative translations, and compare correct and incorrect translations.

The interpretation exercises will foster listening for specific information in order to create a natural speaking sentence. The video lectures will identify listening for key words, how to start and end speech, as well as the importance of pronunciation and vocabulary insertion.

Topics/Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Acquire the skills and abilities needed to correctly and effectively Interpret
    and Translate.
  2. Effectively identify keywords, vocabulary insertion and pronunciation.
  3. Be eligible for intermediate level (L3) of certification and qualify for advanced level 1 or 2 certification.

Program and Homework Duration

  • Total program hours: Lesson + ITT Translation Test = 120 hours over 6 weeks
  • Homework hours per week: 6 – 10 hours

Admissions Requirements

Proof of English proficiency through one of the following:

1. Native speakers of English : Completion of high school
2. International Students : One of the following :

 a) Pass Glenn College’s Free Online English Test (over 70%)
 b) Completion of an oral exam conducted at GC itself with a score of at least 5 (out of 5) or above
 c) An IELTS score of at least 5.5
 d) A TOEFL score of at least 30 or iBT score of at least 65 or above or
 f) A TOEIC score of 600 or above

Graduation and Accreditation Requirements

  • Graduation
    For successful completion, the overall mark (accumulation of homework completion and test/assessment performance) must be a minimum of 70%.
  • Accreditation
    Upon successful completion of the full course, students will receive ITT certification for intermediate level 3 from the government recognized ITT company for translation in South Korea, and now qualify for advanced level 1 or 2 certification.
