Glenn College’s Online TESOL Practicum was design for students who want to delve more deeply on how to create activities for students and lesson plans, apprehend more theory on important topics. This course is a practicum and thus the student will receive more feedback on their actual performance as a potential teacher. After completing the activities, the student will have to record themselves teaching and submit the video in order to receive detailed feedback on how they performed and how they can improve.
The program has been designed to further enable students to develop their abilities and skills as a teacher. The course is divided into 5 modules which covers all four skills (speaking, reading, writing, and listening) plus lesson planning. In each module, theory and practical information will be taught. How to implement the theory and create your own activities will also be covered. Upon completion of each module students will need to complete a quiz and then create their own activity. Upon completing their own activity, they must record themselves teaching that activity and submit both the written activity along with their recording for feedback. Students will need to complete four quizzes as well as submit 4 presentations.
Along with the quizzes and presentations, students will also need to take a final test which will encompass everything taught in the course as well as complete our final assignment. The final assignment involves creating a detailed lesson plan, with an emphasis on using what was taught in class and focusing on skill-based activities. Students will then need to record themselves utilizing their lesson plan to teach a class, and then submit both for marking.
